About Jane Karol

Rider, teacher, psychologist, competitor and coach. Jane Karol, Psy. D. is each of these.

A USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold medallist, Jane is a regular competitor and winner at some of the top dressage shows in New England.

Jane opened Bear Spot Farm in Concord, MA in 1995. Home to 22 horses, the farm provides state-of-the-art care and structured training programs for horse and rider.

An avid student herself, for the last eighteen years, Jane has worked with Dutch dressage trainer Claes Bierenbroodspot. Each year, she also clinics with international experts like Henk van Bergen and Volker Mortiz. In 2004, she was the Intermediaire 1 demonstration rider at the New England Dressage Association’s Anky Van Grunsven clinic. In 2001, she rode with Steffen Peters as an Intermediare 1 and Grand Prix demonstration rider at Equine Affaire. She plans to compete at Grand Prix in 2006 with her Dutch warmblood gelding Nibbit.

Horses are an integral part of Jane’s work as a psychologist. She established The Bear Spot Foundation for the Benefit of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy in 2004. The Foundation’s mission is to bring the profound presence of the horse – the trust he can engender, the joy he can bring and the sense of collaboration and accomplishment that comes from working with such a powerful animal – into a directed therapeutic program for children and adolescents. The Foundation is a 501(c) 3 charitable organization.
